OUT is updating its Resources List, which lists other organisations, groups and service providers that service the LGBT community in South Africa. If you feel you qualify, please e-mail your details to Jacques Livingston at livingstonj@out.org.za.
OUT (LGBT) Well-Being in conjunction with Population Council is currently conducting a cross-sectional quantitative survey of MSM and GBT men in Tshwane and surroundings suburbs and townships. The adopted methodology requires that 500 participants are recruited to take part is what is known as “Respondent Driven Sampling” (RDS).
RDS represents an advance in methodology because it resolves what had previously been an intractable challenge: in the past, it was virtually impossible conduct person-to-person research interviews in the hard-to-reach groups (like groups of MSM and GBT). It is a well known fact that RDS-driven research typically produces more reliable data.
In its entirety the survey will contribute immensely towards a better understanding of the target population with regard to their demographic characteristics, HIV beliefs and knowledge, sexual behaviour, perceptions around HIV prevention, health seeking behaviours and perceptions of healthcare providers.
OUT is seeking participants, who are willing to share their experiences to the benefit of better understanding of sexual behaviours: participants who complete the study will be compensated for travel money to the value of R100.00. Additionally, for every recruit a participant manages to introduce, they will be compensated with additional R25.00.
To be able to participate in the study one must meet the following criteria:
