OUT wishes to fill the following position starting  1 April 2010: A Communication Officer responsible and overseeing multiple marketing/communications projects. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Database management
• Graphic design and creative input
• Web design and management
• Co-coordinating and evaluating marketing strategies
• Liaise with other marketing specialists

Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action (GALA) is a non-profit organisation that has as its main objective the promotion, protection and advocacy of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in South Africa.

 

We are looking for an administrator who is dynamic, politically aware, creative and professional in order to help the organisation achieve its goals.

 

Requirements:

  • Matric with a recognized tertiary qualification in administration or five-years equivalent experience in administration;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Writing skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential enquiries; and
  • Knowledge of human rights issues.

 

We will be giving preference to female candidates from previously disadvantaged groups.

The Joint Working Group (JWG), a network Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) organizations throughout South Africa are deeply disturbed by reports over the weekend reportedly confirmed by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation that Jon Qwelane is to be appointed as an ambassador. We are even more disturbed by suggestions that he may be sent to Uganda where a brutally homophobic piece of legislation is being debated at this time.
